ASA: Our July Charity of the Month

Created in 1997, the American Stroke Association (ASA) is dedicated to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment to save lives from stroke. The ASA, in partnership with the American Heart Association, funds “scientific research to help people better understand and avoid stroke, encourage government support, guide healthcare professionals and provide information to enhance the quality of life for stroke survivors”.

Stoke is a disease that affects the arteries leading to and within the brain. It is the number 4 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States. It is expected that this year, in America alone, some 800,000 people will suffer a stroke. Of those, just under 20% of them will not survive the event. And of those that survive, some recover fully and others never regain full mobility and function.

Jason Moerbe, one of our star Project Managers, nominated ASA because it is an important topic for him and his family. “In the past 20 years, five members of my family have suffered strokes – two of those in the last 18 months. True to the statistics, one of those five did not survive and another is still fighting the physical challenges left behind.”
