Readers 2 Leaders is a local non-profit organization whose mission is to train, equip, encourage and support families in West Dallas to develop and strengthen the reading and language skills of their children.
According to the US Department of Education, 68% of poor readers in 4th grade come from low-income families. 60% of America’s inmates are illiterate and 85% of all juvenile delinquents are illiterate. These statistics indicate a direct connection between reading and success educationally, socially, and professionally.
Lyndsay Wright, an all-star information architect, nominated Readers 2 Leaders because she values education and believes every child should have access to a quality education. “Reading is crucial to receiving an education. Readers 2 Leaders works with children through extra tutoring, storytelling, and other programs to bring these children to an age-appropriate reading proficiency level, in order to improve the outlook of success and confidence for these children.”
Readers 2 Leaders works with children ages 0-18 to make reading an instinctive and habitual part of their lives at an early age. This is an important way to build self-esteem and help them be successful in their personal and professional lives in the future.
