The State Fair of Texas Raffle was selected as our second charity of the month – and it couldn’t be more timely!
The State Fair of Texas will open its doors in exactly one month, kicking off 24 days of music, entertainment, exhibits, livestock shows, food galore and the infamous Big Tex. (That’s right, Big Tex is back too!)
While this is a nostalgic event for many Texans, its mission is to promote agriculture and provide scholarships to high school students.
The State Fair of Texas Raffle was created to support the Youth Livestock Auction & Scholarship Program. Each year, the raffle committee gathers a dozen prize packages valued at over $1,000 for sale each day throughout the fair. Since 1990, the State Fair of Texas has awarded more than $18 million to Texas youth and has graduated more than 500 students through the scholarship program.
Rocketeer Jourdan Hurst nominated this charity because she serves as a member of the 2013 Raffle Committee.
“The State Fair is very important to Dallas’ civic and economic livelihood,” said Jourdan. “The event’s total economic impact on the Dallas / Fort Worth area is calculated at more than $300 million annually.”
